MESOTHERAPY

Mesotherapy is an aesthetic medical specialty, which involves injecting microscopic quantities of pharmaceutical agents, natural plant extracts, homeopathic agents, and/or vitamins into the skin.

Mesotherapy is a technique invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor to deliver medications just below the skin surface. While pills expose the entire body to chemical side effects, Mesotherapy is injected only where it is needed.

Mesotherapy is the practice of using microinjections into the mesoderm or middle layer of skin to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body. The mesotherapy injection is an individualized “fat burning” solution of various vitamins, minerals, enzymes, plant extracts, anesthetics, medications and amino acids. The makeup of the solution varies depending on the needs of the patient and the effect desired while allowing for a greater level of safety when issues such as drug interactions and allergies exist.
These injections are given directly into the areas being treated i.e. love handles, bra bulge, saddlebags etc. A series of treatments (5-15) are given spaced 1-5 weeks apart. Results are considered permanent as long as the patient adheres to a proper nutrition and exercise regimen. Occasional touch-ups may be required.

What does it treat?

Acne, stretch marks, scars, wrinkles, cellulite, body sculpting, weight loss, aging and/or sagging skin, and rejuvenation of the skin, the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions, as well as sports injuries.

Benefits over Liposuction:
Liposuction cannot be used to treat cellulite and in fact often ends up making the cellulite more prominent. Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly, resulting in a smoother skin surface. Mesotherapy is effective in targeted fat reduction or body sclupting, like “love handles” or "saddlebags". Liposuction removes fat cells and subsequent weight gain is mal-distributed in the remaining adipose fat cells such as arms, neck and axillas. Mesotherapy removes fat from the cells and subsequent weight gain is symmetrical. Liposuction requires two weeks of downtime and elastic garments, Mesotherapy requires no downtime and loose, comfortable clothing. Liposuction has significant bruising and pain, Mesotherapy minimal bruising. Liposuction is a surgical procedure requiring general anesthesia, surgery center admittance, and surgical recovery.

The primary advantage of Mesotherapy over Liposuction is that it is a non-invasive procedure and therefore does not have the risks and downtime associated with surgery. Liposuction permanently removes the fat cells and is arguably a more permanent solution; however, it is a frequent problem with liposuction to have visibly uneven results which can be treated with Mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy & Cellulite/fat
Cellulite treatment includes treating several factors. The physician will create a personalized custom formula specific to your graded stage of cellulite. Components of the solutions utilized with mesotherapy dissolve the fat (induce lipolysis) in the cellulite, invigorate the impaired circulation with venous and lymphatic flow, and induce cellulysis of the damaged connective tissue. The aesthetic appearance is smoothing and contouring of the skin surface. Mesotherapy is the most effective cellulite treatment available today and may be performed on any affected part of the body. For those patients who have already had liposuction and now find fat depositing in other areas as well as cellulite, which has become worse, mesotherapy is the solution.

How Does Mesotherapy Work On Skin Rejuvenation & Wrinkle Prevention?
Mesotherapy can be used for revitalizing the skin and to prevent or delete wrinkles utilizes vitamin and antioxidant injections under the skin to makes the cells more active metabolically, stimulate both collagen and elastin production, creating a skin rejuvenation process. For wrinkle prevention, you can start in your mid- twenties with Mesotherapy vitamin treatments to prevent wrinkles from forming. Treatments of the face, neck, and hands are recommended up to four times per year. The physician will recommend topical agents for daily care between mesotherapy treatments.

The aging process can be cruel to our skin. Between sun damage and progressive collagen loss, the skin loses its plumpness and resiliency. Mesotherapy skin rejuvenation or “Mesolift” infuses the dermis with potent vitamins and anti-oxidants to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. People who have had a “Mesolift” describe their skin as firm, radiant, youthful and glowing. The Mesolift is usually performed in an initial series of 2-4 treatments spaced a week apart. Results are maintained by twice a year touch up sessions.
An additional treatment used to revitalize skin is a combination TCA/SA & Retinoic Acid face peel.

How Does Mesotherapy Work On Weight Loss & Spot Reduction
Mesotherapy can also be used to target specific areas or spots where your body stores excessive fat (spot reduction). A customized formulas medically directed in a specific area blocks the cells from storing new fat and helps break down the existing stored fat cells and metabolize the fat (lipolysis). Your body then naturally flushes out the metabolized fat via invigorated venous and lymphatic circulation. The spot reduction technique can be used for double chins, love handles, saddlebags, inner thighs, inner knees, and any other area where your body pockets fat.

Are the treatments painful?
We use topical triple anesthetic gel (Benzocaine/Lidocaine/Tetracaine) to assure comfortable mesotherapy treatment.

Are there any side effects?
The most frequent side effect is bruising. You may experience some bruising, which resolves over approximately one week. Abrams Royal Pharmacy recommends using a vitamin A & K cream, arnica and grape seed extract supplements to minimize any bruising. Topical ointments such as hydrocortisone and Traumeel are further used to decrease bruising events.

How does it work?
Mesotherapy treats three factors involved in cellulite formation. Your doctor creates a specific formula to reduce the ft in your cellulite, improve impaired circulation and break down damaged connective tissue-thereby smoothing the skin’s surface.

Allergic Reactions
Allergy testing is not necessary, but it may be something you wish to do.  Usually, Hyaluronidase & Procaine are injected to test for allergic reactions. After 24 hours after the test injections, patients should call to report if she/he had any negative reactions.

Are the treatments painful?
After the injections are given, a patient might experience a burning or pinching sensation.  Though many can tolerate the treatment, we offer a topical numbing cream which can be used 45 minutes beforehand to minimize discomfort. Some patients experience bruising, but these side effects usually decrease within 2-6 days.

The Results
Finals results vary depending on the individual’s body type and the condition being treated. Although some people see results after the first session, most people find improvements after two or three treatments. After your treatments, the natural aging process will continue. The best way to make your mesotherapy results last is to combine treatment with exercise and proper nutrition, and maintain regular visits.
